On site, a scrap of linear polarizing film taped over my phone camera lets me spot anisotropy — rotate 90° and ‘the bands pop’ — so I can match panes before setting… It won’t beat a proper strain viewer for documentation, but it’s fast on a lift and makes the glass’s zebra stripes show up.

Had a lobby pane that started to ‘sing’ when the HVAC ramped up — . A single 1 mm neoprene shim at the head, about 6 in off center, broke the resonance and shut it up; the $8 pack from the hardware store was enough, though if that doesn’t do it I’ll slightly rotate the lite to dodge the roller wave. Anyone else fine-tuning with soft setting blocks?
